His extensive professional experience includes, amongst others, Director of Clinical Support Services and the Pharmacy Department at the Hospital Universitari Vall d’Hebron in Barcelona for 14 years and Director of Pharmaceutical Services at Barcelona municipal hospitals, IMAS, for 9 years.
His 20 years of teaching experience includes, amongst others, associate professor at the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Barcelona and the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of the Republic, Montevideo, Uruguay, as well as, in several university Masters courses and guest speaker in european business schools, including the ESADE Business School in Barcelona, Bocconi University in Milan, INSEAD in Fontainebleau and the Instituto de Empresa in Madrid.
His experience as a researcher includes participation in various projects, including being coordinator and lead researcher in the Epimed Study. He has participated as a speaker at more than 200 conferences and round tables in various countries, and has written around 100 publications including articles, books and book chapters.
He was vice-president of the Acadèmia de Ciències Mèdiques de Catalunya i Balears for 8 years, and was appointed international corresponding member of the Pharmaceutical Sciences Academy of Chile.
He has advised and continues to advise various healthcare administrations, universities, technological schools and public and private healthcare centres in various countries. Amongst others, he was an advisor to the Directorate General of Pharmacy and Healthcare Products of the Spanish Ministry of Health, the Direcció General d’Ordenació i Planificació Sanitària and the Consell Català d’Especialitats en Ciències de la Salut (CCECS) of the Generalitat of Catalonia. He was director of Pharmaceutical Care at the Olympic Games and Paralympics of Barcelona ’92.
